Jane’s Review

After the major cliffhanger that ended book 1 (Toxic Secrets) I have been looking forward to reading book 2 ever since. The story continues about Jaxon and Courtney and it doesn’t disappoint!! Courtney has been through so much and her suffering continues throughout this book.
This one is still full of angst and much to my delight, is also a lot more sexier than the first with lots more detailed sex scenes.
I am loving the characters even more and Courtney has to be one of my favourite lead female characters just because she is such a likeable character and even after everything she has been through she just carries on. Jaxon is a bit messed up in this one but just because he isn’t perfect doest make him any less appealing. I did feel at times I wanted to give him a shake to make him see sense but he certainly has plenty of depth to him.
I found that I cried alot during this book and I was sobbing after I had finished, it certainly stirred up some feelings for me and can’t really explain without spoiling the plot. This is very well written and will keep you guessing the entire time and by the time you have finished it will grab hold of your heart and have you falling in love with this fantastic love story.
It flows altogether very nicely and answers and wraps up the story very well and everyone gets what they deserve!!
The more books I read from this author the more I love her writing and is without a doubt one of the authors I would drop everything to read her latest book.

Secrets Unveiled Excerpt

Without warning she lunged at me with full-force, attacking me like a wild animal that had been caged for years. My head collided against the back window, but I didn’t care when her lips devoured mine. She kissed me with so much power and need. It was a different kind of need. She clung to me as if I was her life support, as if she would diminish from this world without me. God, I loved her.
The warmth from her touch buzzed throughout my body. It was so much more intense than any drug could ever give me. This high was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. It was euphoric and surreal.
Courtney climbed onto my lap, straddling me, pinning me against the inside corner of my truck. Her hands engulfed the sides of my face as she tasted every part of my mouth. My hands crept along her thighs then her hips, trailing up until I found the soft flesh against her ribs. She moaned into my mouth causing my cock to lengthen uncomfortably in my jeans. Knowing I shouldn’t encourage this, I gently caressed the underside of her breasts. My hands were longing to touch her nipples, to tug and pull them until she submitted to me wholly.

Jill Patten was born a Yankee, but raised a southerner. She lives in the small town of Mayberry, North Carolina which was made famous by a popular TV show back in the sixties. (Maybe there will one day be a statue of her at the end of Main Street. Ha! A girl can dream, right?)
Jill has always loved to read, even during reading labs in middle school for reading comprehension. Judy Blume was her first author she hero-worshipped, maturing to revere the works of Stephen King. With all the fantastic authors today, she simply cannot choose a favorite. Her taste is very eclectic and she loves almost all genres. When she’s not captivated by her fictional characters, she spends time with her sweet husband and two beautiful children.
Music is her muse. Jill also loves elephants, sarcasm, and anything made with sugar, especially sweet tea. She enjoys all things rude and crude and laughs at stuff she probably shouldn’t. She has been accused of being bossy a time or two, but doesn’t really see it herself.
All in all, Jill is just a small town girl in this great big world trying to enable your book addiction.

And then, a torrent of circumstances ripped through my life. One by one, my family began to crumble. My dad’s heart attack. My brother’s tragic death. My mother’s slipping sanity. And then Conall’s abandonment. He took my heart when he left, but he gave me a reason to grow up fast, to be strong, and to live.
Now, just when things finally start looking up, he’s back in Bitterroot. Standing before me, not the boy he once was, but a man who carries a dark, tormented guilt. Sibylla Matilde grew up in the mountain valleys of Southwest Montana exploring the dusty Old West gold country on the back of a horse. She attended a two-room schoolhouse beginning in 1st grade & had the same teacher until she changed schools after 7th. Beginning at about age 12, Sibylla discovered historical romance, feeding off of work of Jude Deveraux & Lisa Kleypas. She loves a book that can make the reader run the gamut of emotions, from the sweet glow of new love to gut-wrenching heartache. She is a true romantic & always has stories floating around in her head, living in a fantasyland until she writes them down to free them.
Music is her emotional trigger. Growing up with a Wagnarian-loving mother, Sibylla was raised to treasure music that digs deep into the psyche, drawing out elation, sorrow, grief, desire. The soundtrack to her life includes many genres spanning centuries. She looooooooves Thirty Seconds to Mars (rather obsessively, actually… but, really, how can you NOT be crazy about this guy!? Jared Leto. Shhh. ) & pimps them out to all her friends through Spotify. She also delights in Met Opera HD broadcasts at her local movie theater & hopes (listening Met?) to someday see Diana Damrau reprise her role as Mozart’s Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte.
Sibylla lives with her husband and hero who saved her from her own calamitous, young-adult self. He makes her laugh daily, even when things are tough. He’s proved to her that love really can heal a shattered soul. In 18 years, they have never had a fight, although argue regularly with their two teenage kids who have, unfortunately, inherited their father’s quick wit (unfortunate as it is a quick wit that Sibylla, herself, definitely does not possess – there is a reason she is a writer & not a stand-up comedian). They live a quiet life with their two weird little rescued Chiweenies. Wait… teenagers & little yap-dogs? OK, maybe not so quiet.

Gina’s Review ~ Taint by Syreeta Jennings

That is all I could think of when finishing this.

And then I was stumped on what to say – without giving the whole story away.

I guess first things first.

Who is Justice Drake?

And what the hell was I doing reading this?

Justice Drake is an asshole. Or is he?

Ok, I begged and pleaded to read this book and what a ride it was. And nothing like I thought it would be.

Taint is one of the best character development stories I have read in a while. It is a bit of a slap upside the head when dealing with the main characters cynical, sarcastic POV and the entire story is told through his eyes.

Justice Drake has made a name for himself educating the wives of the rich and famous at his “Oasis” on how to seduce and tantalize their spouses into being interested in them again, giving them tips and tools as far as what he (and their spouses) think they want in their women. A real sure fire way to re-kindle the fires and keep their man at home. He researches their lives and he is an updated, gorgeous alpha male version of Dr. Ruth – without the accent. He has these women and their men all figured out, and knows what they are made of and he makes no bones about telling these ladies how it is.  Yes, most of his filter is missing and he really doesn’t care who he offends.

But does he really have it all figured out?

Justice is about to have everything he believes, tossed into a blender and frapped.

Allison Carr is signed up for Justice’s course at the Oasis by her husband to learn everything she needs to keep him. Because of course it’s all her fault that he isn’t interested and chasing everything with breasts and a heartbeat, even before they were married. Isn’t it?

As the “lessons” with this class progress at the Oasis, Justice finds himself breaking every rule he has ever set in place for himself and for his attendees and finds an attraction with Allison that he can’t seem to break. Allison won’t fit into any of the molds he tries to put her in and she just won’t cooperate with any of his rules.

As repugnant as Justice began the book, by the end I was absolutely entranced with he and Alli and wanted them together. There are some that may not be able to get around the absence of filter with Justice, but it is well worth it so slough through to find the real Justice Drake.

This is a hot, funny, steamy and intense book that is really hard to put down and just one that I know I will be coming back to again and again. I did wish for a bit more at the epilogue as there were a few tidbits in there that I would have LOVED to have been a fly on the wall for!

On the Goodreads scale I have to give this a 5 for ‘its amazing’ and a 5 with Amazon and Barnes and Noble for ’I loved it’!

Gina’s review ~ End of the Innocence (Innocence #3) by Alessandra Torre ~ Giveaway and Excerpt

Whew! Finished the series and I just want to go back and dive in again. I read the first book in the series when it first came out almost two years ago and loved it and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. Unfortunately, I had to cool my heels for a while, waiting for the second and third books of the series and the author decided to sneak in of the novella about Brad in the meantime.

This is not a stand-alone book and you really have to read from the beginning to appreciate it.

In the first book, Blindfolded Innocence you meet Julia Campbell and Brad De Luca and you get a sense for these characters as to what makes them tick. I liked that Julia was not a doormat, but was obviously curious about Brad and I enjoyed the story as she becomes slowly sucked into his world, which is really outside of anything she is used to. He is a divorce attorney with a very well deserved sex-god ‘love em, but don’t become attached to em’ reputation and everyone surrounding Julia is doing their level best to keep her away from him as they don’t want any more problems from the interns of this high powered law firm and this man. These two are like magnets that are compelled to attract and they begin a very unconventional clandestine relationship. Julia is not wearing rose colored glasses with Brad and she is very upfront about his behavior and past and this kind of honesty seems to be a sort of an aphrodisiac for Brad as he chases her and lures her into his lifestyle and way of thinking. He does not lie and he is very direct and upfront – shockingly so. Although he doesn’t lie, he doesn’t volunteer information and there is a good deal that he omits from their interaction.

In the novella Diary of Brad De Luca, you meet Brad ‘pre-Julia’ and I have to say – at this stage of the game he was not book boyfriend material and I just simply did not like him. It is funny though, you have to read a story like this to understand how much he changes in an effort to make his unconventional relationship with Julia work. You do not have to read the novella to understand the books, however I think you have a better appreciation for his character by reading it.

Masked Innocence takes the reader in a direction I did not expect. Yes, it had even more heat and steam than the first book, however the plot line was so captivating that I (believe it or not) could have had the steamy hot scenes do a ‘fade out’ and the book would have stood well on its own – and this is when erotica is at its best. I love it when all the steam and heat enhance a book into a captivating story that is hard to put down, rather than the whole book being dependent on sex. There was so much development as to their relationship and I was riveted as I found out more about Brads background and more was discovered as to Julia’s boss and all the crazy hours he had her working and the insanity that develops over one overheard phone call.

End of the Innocence takes place over a year period, from the point that Julia accepts Brad’s impulsive proposal at the end of book two. End of the Innocence is the innocence that one has towards their life and the belief in other people. Brad has a family that is for the most part, repugnant and he is actually the ‘good guy’ of the group. In much of this book, he is out to protect Julia as well as grow in a relationship where he has no previous foundation to base it on. Julia is testing Brad over this year to see if he can be faithful and stick to what he originally proposed with their relationship, or if he would ‘fall off the wagon’ due to temptation and demons from his past. I did not think that it was possible for the heat level to be elevated from the first book, but it was and did not have a contrived or forced feel to it. Once again I had the feeling that the uber hot scenes could have done a fade out and the story would have stood on its own. The finale was as emotional as it was captivating and I am going to probably go back in and read again at a later date.

This was a great progression of the series where I slowly fell in love with Julia and Brad and Martha, Martha, Martha…she was just a wonderful character!

On the Goodreads scale. I would rate this as a 4 for ‘really liked it’ and the Amazon/B&N scale of 5 for ‘I loved it’ – overall scoring of 4.5
I did receive an ARC for an honest review from the author and the publisher.

I felt Brad’s hand move, tugging on my chair and pulling me close to him. He captured my face in his hands, his eyes examining my features. “I love you so much,” he murmured, his eyes moving over and focusing on my lips before he tugged me to him, taking ownership of my mouth with a few soft swipes of his tongue. I opened my lips further, deepening the contact, my hands stealing into his hair. I broke the kiss, pushing my chair back and standing, moving closer to him and spreading his knees with my legs. He slid deeper in the chair, reclining back against the soft leather, gazing up at me with a latent dominance of the nothing-but-trouble variety. I grinned playfully down at him, and slid one strap, then the other, of my dress down, dragging the fabric until my bare breasts were exposed, lit softly by the blue-gray lights of the room.
He groaned softly, a guttural sound, and stared into my eyes, tightening his knees against my legs. “Come here.”
I shook my head and knelt, running my hands softly up his dress pants, past his muscular thighs, until I reached his belt. He watched me, his eyes darkening and he leaned forward suddenly, snagging my chin and pulling it up, his eyes grabbing me possessively before kissing me hard, a deep kiss that reclaimed his power before he released me, leaning back and watching me.
“Do you always have to be in control, Mr. De Luca?” I purred the words, unbuckling his belt with one motion, then rubbed my hand over the zipper line, feeling the outline of his cock underneath the fabric, the shape of him hardening under my fingers. He didn’t answer, his eyes locked on mine, dark orbs of sexuality. I suddenly needed to see him, needed to have his bare skin in my hand, to feel the throb of what was mine. I looked away from his eyes, focusing, and unbuttoned and unzipped his pants. Then, he was in my hand, an impossibly thick, hard shaft, the skin hot beneath my palm. I stroked it, the firm grip eliciting an intake of Brad’s breath.
“Put it in your mouth.” The order came through in a drugged tone, desire glowing at me from under heavy eyelids.
I shook my head, increasing the speed of my stroke as I watched him. He frowned slightly, lifting his hips a bit, bringing the nine inches of insanity closer to my face. I spoke, my tone a mixture of dominance and bite. “What is your plan with the girl?”
He sat up slightly, his eyes opening more, and watching me carefully. “What girl?”
“The stripper. The one you fucked last time you were here.”
“I thought that didn’t bother you.”
I hissed. “It didn’t bother me last time. Things are different now. Are you going to talk to her?”
“I feel like this is a test of some sort …” he mumbled. His breath hitched a bit as I squeezed his cock, loving the feel of complete stiffness in my hands. “What is you want, Julia?”
I ran my tongue lightly, teasingly, over the top of his head, taking it into my mouth for one brief moment before I pulled off, my hands never pausing in their movement, a quick pace that traveled his entire length with every stroke. “I want you to handle it,” I said firmly. “I want her to understand that you will never have sex with her again.”
“Never?” I released him, the sudden departure causing his eyes to open and a frown to settle over his features. “I’m joking. Don’t stop.”
I resumed my movement, my free hand gathering his heavy balls in my hand, squeezing him softly as I stroked his length with a firm hand.
“Come here,” he said, sitting up and pulling on my arms.
“No.” I fixed him with my sternest look, my hand increasing in speed.
“Julia, come here. I want to talk to you about this without being tongue-tied by your hands on my cock.” He pulled harder, his strong arms lifting me easily onto his lap, despite my best attempt at resistance.
Sitting on his lap created a new set of problems. Mainly him, standing at attention against my thighs. I sat sideways on his lap and spread my knees slightly, my hand stealing in between my legs to grab him.

Jane’s Review ~ Escaping Destiny (The Fae Chronicles #3) by Amelia Hutchins

This is book 3 in the series so if you haven’t read 1 & 2 you need to read them before you start this book.

Syn has been taken to the Horde Realm by the Horde king, she is disappointed that Ryder hasn’t shown up to save her.

She has to find herself and come to terms with what she is.

I can’t say much more without spoiling the story but be warned this might contain spoilers.

This installment doesn’t disappoint at all with a few twists and lots of hot sex it’s my ideal sort of book. I found there is so much I love about this story and as the series continues it stays consistent and  is so well written it just reaches out and pulls you in.

I still love Ryder and he doesn’t disappoint me at all. He is even more sexier than he has been in other books I think this is because there is more glimpses of the beast within, I was surprised how much I actually loved the beast  and I enjoyed his time in the book and the chemistry he had with Syn was awesome. I also really liked the other characters that are consistent throughout the series and Ristan being one of my favourite. Syn is brilliant in this book and have grown very attached to her character and have so much respect for her, I am rooting for her to have a big happy ending to her story.

There is lots of questions answered in this book but some still remain unanswered and I for one can’t wait for the next book to find out where this amazing story takes us next.

This one doesn’t have a cliffhanger ending but is left open and I feel very satisfied that I didn’t want to hunt the author down this time around. I enjoyed reading this one and by half way in I was on tender hooks and I could not put it down.

What else can I say but I LOVED IT
